The day that came

We rear them to be better than ourselves
We know they are ours only for a short time
When they are little we cherish their smiles, smells and laughter
Before they are about to begin their adult lives we wish time slows
Along the way they show how remarkable they are
We stare in awe at what they have become
So honored to have been their parent
The day came and we were speechless
left with the moments of bliss and better for the entire journey
What a bitter sweet day it was
We fade into the background and become spectators
We reminisce about the days gone by and realize
The day that came
